Colin
Colin is one of SODO’s most consistent members. Despite huge life changes (like having the cutest kid in the world!), he’s never skipped a beat. He continues to work hard at every class. And he’s also a bike commuter, so basically he’s a way better human than the rest of us. ;)
How long have you been at SODO?
Just passed the 3 year mark.
What inspired you to start?
I was playing a lot of soccer at the time and my main source of exercise came from running. A few months before I had sustained an injury in a game from an overzealous tackle in the rec league I was a part of. It kind of made me realize I needed to work more on total body fitness and particularly strength.
What makes you stick with it?
As much as I complain sometimes, I actually like it and having programming, goals and competing with myself keeps me motivated to always try and improve. The great coaches and supportive community at SODO and CC help a lot with that too.
What’s your favorite movement?
Love Clean & Jerk or Deadlift days.
What’s your current health- or fitness-related goal?
Now that I feel comfortable with the Oly movements, I want to get good at all the gymnastics stuff that I admittedly suck at. HSPU’s and Muscle Ups are the next things I want to get good at. Well, first be able to do 1 of, then get good at.
What do you do for fun?
I’ve been collecting records since high school, so you’ll find me in the bargain bins searching for gold pretty often. I’m pretty competitive, so any opportunity to play team sports, I take up. Current obsession is Volleyball. Above all, I love doing all the silly, fun things that my 1.5 year-old daughter dreams up.
Any advice for newcomers?
When I started, things like pull-ups, handstands and deadlifting 400 pounds sounded like a strange dreamworld since I had never come close to ever doing anything like it in my life. A lot of these things will push you out of your comfort zone and you may even feel self-conscious about even attempting them. I know I did. But you shouldn’t. We’ve all been in that position at some point, so push yourself and have fun with it. You’ll end up impressing yourself and feeling a great deal of accomplishment.
